January 27, 2005, 9:53 am. I forget the name of the flowers and they're in our own garden. I like to get close to the daily colour and light displays. Just found out they are named Crocosmia. The name is derived from the Greek words krokos (saffron) and osme (smell), referring to the saffron-like scent, when dried flowers are dipped in water. They are commonly known in the United States as coppertips or falling stars, and in Britain as montbretia.
